Home Energy Coaching

A fascinating new report has just been published on energy behaviours and home coaching  entitled Relationship experts – Behaviour Change and Home Energy Coaching. The report is the product of a six month research project run by Ymlaen Ceredigion, in partnership with Ceredigion County Council and Aberystwyth University. Drawing on the insights of the behavioural sciences the  Report considers if home energy coaching can support householders to make changes in their energy use behaviours. Blending quantitative and qualitative data results, the Report provides important insights into the efficacy of behavioural coaching. This is a fantastic contribution to the evidence on behaviour change and energy use, and highlights the importance of being responsive to the needs and knowledge of those who are being assisted. I particularly like the focus on curiosity and helping people to experiment with different options to find what works best for them.

The use of energy monitors to give real time feedback and help people make sense of how their home works is also important as it removes subjectivity and gives people the ability to see the impact of their changes.
